Our most popular Raspberry Pi robot kit DiddyBorg is back with faster motors and a newly designed chassis!
The idea remains the same, a 6 wheeled high-torque robotics platform, but give everyone the ability to add lots of extra functionality and get your robot to perform a wide range of tasks. Want to detect objects in your DiddyBorg's path? Add the ultrasonic mounts at the front and back. Need to use a servo to move a robotic arm? Mount them on the multifunction top and go!
You could even add the Raspberry Pi touch screen and turn your robot into a touchscreen controlled turtle.
A Raspberry Pi B+/2/3/3B+ and SD card are required to complete your DiddyBorg v2, they are not included. DiddyBorg v2 optionally supports the Pi Camera, also not included.
Specifications
Basic DiddyBorg v2 comes with:
Chassis: Laser cut 3mm Cast Acryllic PerspexTM in Purple now designed and cut at PiBorg.
Six 1:83 (100rpm) metal gear 12V 400mA PiBorg motors.
Our ThunderBorg 5A dual output motor controller including LED indicator, power regulator and PWM control.
There are two additional styles of top available for the DiddyBorg v2:
The Multifunction Top with mounting holes for servos and adaptable mounting points for an additional Raspberry Pi 3, Raspberry Pi Zero or Zero W or the Arduino Uno.
The robot can be set to run autonomously (so in that case the range would be however long your batteries last). I assume however that you're referring to controlling Diddy with your phone/computer? The range would be down to the WiFi dongle & router that you're using. The Pi's on board WiFi is usually good for 10m - 20m, but there are dongles available that will go up to 100m or more.
Could you provide some overall dimensions of the kit once assembled please? Also, if possible, any chance of a full working drawing (or dxf) to take additional dimensions from please?
Whats the max load (weight) it could carry? Whats the max load it could pul (levelled surface, load on wheels) I just need an approx value.
Axel Moser
DiddyBorg v2 can carry the same amount of weight as the older DiddyBorg. It will drive at 4.5 Kg without too much trouble: https://vine.co/v/O3zTjL03EwQ
It should be able to carry more, however the more weight it is carrying the slower it will move and it may no longer be able to tank steer. I would not advise carrying too much more weight though.
Can I easily add an Ultraborg and 4 ultrasonic sensors to this robot?
Don Brace
You sure can! We have a sensor kit for the DiddyBorg - https://www.piborg.org/robots/diddyborg-v2-sensormounts - Which allows you to easily mount 4 ultrasonic sensors.
The ultraborg alows you to daisychain multiple boards together so there'll be no issues wiring it up along with the ThunderBorg.
The only thing you'll need to look into is how to mount it to the DiddyBorg.
